Mpongwe Area – Zambia: Our client is looking for a Cropping Section Manager to join the team.

Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

- Tertiary qualification in agriculture.

- Three years’ experience in cropping.

- Additional certifications are advantageous.

- Valid Driver’s License.

- Valid Passport with a minimum of 5 years before expiration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

- Proven experience in cropping operations, with a focus on wheat, soya and maize.

- Demonstrated ability to oversee and implement various programs, which promote improved production efficiency and productivity.

- Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards.

- Excellent communication skills.

- Integrity and professional ethics.

- Teamwork skills.

- Time management.

- The ability to work independently and to strict deadlines.

- Attention to detail.

- Ability to adapt and work in potentially challenging conditions and situations.

- Effective resource management.

- Ability to diagnose and effectively treat potential issues with the crops being grown.

- Understanding of modern technology is beneficial.

- Understanding of various crop requirements and the management of them.

- Experience with and ability to utilise modern technology.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

- Planning and implementing cropping programs, which promote sustainability and consistent improvements in soil fertility and health.

- Implementing a sound crop rotation strategy.

- Managing planting, spraying and fertilising programs, in consultation with senior management and external consultants.

- Procurement of required inputs, in advance of the next cropping season.

- Creating and managing budgets.

- Ensuring the correct implementation of irrigation, to promote maximized yields and optimized use of resources.

- Promoting soil fertility, through the use of regenerative practices, such as cover-cropping. Installation of new infrastructure such as irrigation, sheds and fertilizer and grain storage facilities.

- Provide a weekly report to senior management.

- Work closely with our procurement and logistics team, to ensure sustainable stock levels of all required items and inputs.

- Maintenance of grain storage facilities.

- Production of compost and other related organic inputs.

- Planning and implementing pre and post season equipment inspections.

- Monitoring usage and service records of equipment.

- Monitoring and recording usage of chemicals, fertilisers and other inputs.

- Utilise modern technology to ensure precision and maximise efficiency.

- Assist with management of citrus orchards.
