Phillippi Area, Cape Town -Western Cape: Seeking a hands-on, technically strong Operations / Farm Manager to take full responsibility for site operations, with critical focus on irrigation management, compost production, screening plant operations, and equipment maintenance.
This role is not suited to a traditional crop or livestock farm manager. It requires strong mechanical, water, and industrial operations experience.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Strong diesel mechanical and operational background.
- Proven experience with:
o Boreholes, pumps, and irrigation systems.
o VSDs and pump control systems.
o Screening plants or industrial processing equipment.
- 5+ years’ experience in: Composting, waste management, recycling, quarrying, mining, or Agri-processing.
- Hands-on, practical, and solution-driven.
- Valid driver’s licence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
Water, Boreholes & Irrigation (Critical)
- Manage/install/repair boreholes, pump houses, and water distribution end-to- end.
- Setup and manage irrigation systems from pump house to sprinklers/sprayers.
- Program and operate pump start/stop systems and VSDs.
- Manage pressure, flow rates, and moisture control for composting.
Compost Production & Screening
- Plan compost production and screening schedules.
- Adjust production for wet winter conditions and seasonal variation.
- Optimise moisture levels to improve screening efficiency.
- Ensure consistent compost quality.
Plant, Equipment & Maintenance
- Oversee screening plants, conveyors, motors, gearboxes and pumps.
- Manage loaders, excavators, and material handlers.
- Implement preventative maintenance and manage breakdowns.
- Control diesel usage and equipment uptime.
Site Operations, Quality & Dispatch
- Full control of site operations, housekeeping, and material flow.
- Ensure litter picking and removal of foreign matter before dispatch.
- Coordinate dispatch and ensure orders are delivered on time.
- Maintain high product quality standards.
Health, Safety & Staff Management
- Enforce health & safety compliance and PPE use.
- Supervise and manage operators and general workers.
- Allocate daily tasks and production targets.
