Mpongwe Area – Zambia: Our client is looking for a Junior Livestock Manager to join the team.

Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

- Tertiary qualification in agriculture.

- Three years’ experience in livestock.

- Additional certifications are advantageous.

- Valid Driver’s License.

- Valid Passport with a minimum of 5 years before expiration

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

- Proven experience in livestock husbandry and management.

- Demonstrated ability to oversee and implement various programs, which promote improved production efficiency and productivity.

- Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards.

- Excellent communication skills. Integrity and professional ethics.

- Teamwork skills.

- Time management.

- The ability to work independently and to strict deadlines.

- Attention to detail.

- Ability to adapt and work in potentially challenging conditions and situations.

- Effective resource management.

- Ability to diagnose and effectively treat potential issues with herd and flock health.

- Understanding of reproductive programs is beneficial.

- Understanding of animal nutritional requirements.

- Experience with and ability to utilise modern technology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

- Monitor and implement measures to ensure herd health.

- Follow and accurately implement breeding programs.

- Supervise production and distribution of feed and other supplement products.

- Maintain up-to-date records of animal reproduction, mortality, feed allocation and other relevant happenings.

- Produce bales and silage, and monitor the usage of the same.

- Establish and manage improved pastures.

- Run AI and other reproductive programs.

- Monitor herd fertility and functionality.

- Maintain all existing infrastructure and develop new infrastructure as and when required.

- Maintain all relevant records relating to the feedlot.

- Manage grazing in the extensive areas of the farm, to ensure long term sustainability and maintenance of the pasture quality.

- Monitor parasite pressure and where necessary treat accordingly.

- Set plans to monitor and manage potential disease outbreaks.

- Address concerns or questions on herd and flock health.

- Study and keep up-to-date with changes in industry, that may affect the group.

- Keep abreast of internal standards and business goals.

- Work with management teams on different properties to monitor the management and use of inputs.

- Promote improved resource use and efficiency.

- Prepare and submit weekly reports to senior management and external consultants when required.
